Microneedling in Worthing: Everything You Need to Know Before Your Treatment
If you’re looking to improve your skin texture, soften the appearance of acne scarring or simply give your skin a healthier, fresher appearance, microneedling may be a treatment worth considering.
Microneedling has become an increasingly popular treatment for improving overall skin quality — but what actually happens during a treatment, how does it work and when can you expect to see results?
Here’s everything you need to know before booking microneedling at Rebecca Jacqueline Aesthetics in Worthing.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-channels within the skin.
These tiny micro-injuries stimulate the skin’s natural healing response, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin.
Rather than adding volume or changing your facial features, microneedling works with your own skin to gradually improve its texture and overall appearance.
What can microneedling help with?
One of the reasons I love microneedling is that it can be used to address a number of different skin concerns.
It may be recommended for:
Acne scarring
Uneven skin texture
Enlarged pores
Fine lines
Dull or tired-looking skin
Uneven skin tone
General skin rejuvenation
Your treatment should always be tailored to your individual skin rather than following the same protocol for every patient.
What happens during a microneedling appointment?
Before beginning treatment, we’ll discuss your skin, medical history, current skincare and the concerns you’d like to improve.
Your skin will then be thoroughly cleansed and prepared for treatment.
The microneedling device is passed across the treatment area at a depth appropriate for your skin and treatment goals. This creates the controlled micro-channels that initiate the skin’s natural repair process.
You may experience some discomfort during treatment, but microneedling is generally well tolerated.
What does your skin look like afterwards?
Immediately after microneedling, it’s completely normal for your skin to look red and feel warm or sensitive — often compared to the feeling of mild sunburn.
You may also experience some tightness, dryness or light flaking while the skin recovers.
Your exact recovery will vary depending on your skin and the intensity of your treatment, which is why following your individual aftercare advice is important.
When will I see results?
Microneedling isn’t designed to give an overnight transformation.
Your results develop as your skin repairs itself and produces new collagen, meaning improvements can continue to develop in the weeks following treatment.
You may notice your skin looking fresher relatively quickly, while improvements in concerns such as texture and scarring usually take longer.
Depending on what we're treating, I may recommend a course of microneedling sessions rather than a single appointment.
Is one microneedling treatment enough?
It depends on what you want to achieve.
If your goal is general skin maintenance and rejuvenation, an occasional treatment may be appropriate. For concerns such as acne scarring or more noticeable changes in texture, a course of treatments may be recommended.
There isn't one treatment plan that is right for everybody, which is why your skin should be assessed individually.
What should I avoid after microneedling?
Your skin barrier needs time to recover following treatment, so your skincare should be kept simple.
You'll usually need to temporarily avoid active ingredients such as retinoids and exfoliating acids, as well as excessive heat, strenuous exercise and swimming during the initial recovery period.
Sun protection is particularly important following microneedling, and a high-factor SPF should form part of your daily routine.
You'll receive personalised aftercare instructions following your appointment.
Is microneedling right for my skin?
Microneedling can be suitable for a wide range of people, but that doesn't mean it's appropriate for everyone.
Your skin condition, medical history, medication, current skincare and treatment goals all need to be considered before treatment.
And sometimes, another treatment may be better suited to what you're trying to achieve.
